It’s all good…

I think it’s interesting how quickly the world (those who don’t go to church) and expect scandal anytime someone leaves a church staff. We parted ways with one of Oak Leaf’s founding Pastors this week and immediately some people jumped to conclusions. Many others had legitimate questions about why we made this change. We expected questions to be raised and therefore we have all taken steps to communicate that nobody cheated on their wife, stole a computer, or were really an axe murderer. It has nothing to do with anything other then God said it was time to make a change.

I don’t understand how God works, His timing, and why He works the way He does, but I know He is there during this process. As Tim Samples transitions off our staff and into his next adventure in ministry he will get some of the answers he is looking for. As people who attend our church stick with us to see what God is up to and how He will provide for our church, many more people will learn to trust the leadership and the decision that were made.

Tim Samples is a great guy, father, leader, and minister. In some ways he was the best “pastor” on our staff, because he went the extra mile to care for people. It is why he was in charge of care for our church as a whole. We won’t forget Tim and all he did for Oak Leaf. I actually suggested the idea of making him Small Groups Pastor Emeritus, but he said he wasn’t old enough.

To make a long explanation short, Oak Leaf Church will grow, thrive, and continue to move forward. God has been intricately involved in this process and we are sure it is what’s best for Tim and Oak Leaf Church. Nothing about it is easy or fun, but what is right isn’t always fun…it’s just right.

  1. Kelly W. says:

I don’t think that people were questioning Tim and any “funny business” that he did. I think more people were questioning why the staff and board made the decision to let him go, at least that was the case for Adam and I. We never thought that Tim had done anything wrong. The church will continue to move forward and grow, but when you live in Mayberry and Andy just got fired, I think you have to answer your own question…What did you expect?

  2. Jim says:

I agree with Kelly. No one is questioning Tim Samples’ character. Michael has been really vague about why the staff and board made the decision to let Tim go. This coupled with the fact his leave was immediate without transition initiates suspicion.

  3. agratto says:

But therein lies the paradox/quandary. Any more information then we have given would mean that we have to give specifics, which means that we would not protect Tim. We are going to protect Tim at all costs and take the heat ourselves if that is what it takes to do so.
