Top OLC Memories: Booted Out!?

Posted: July 27, 2009 in Random

Arguable the most difficult and stressful thing for the Western Church to survive is the loss of their meeting place.  We can say the church isn’t a building or that we will meet anywhere to have church, but we naturally grow fond of certain locations and habitual meeting locations.

In the Fall of 2008, while we were meeting a Woodland High School, we were informed that there was a beauty pageant that took precedence over our use of the building that weekend.  Consequently, we had to find another place for the nearly 800 regular attenders to meet with about a 2-month head starts.  For a portable church, this should be like picking out a song for the worship set, but we couldn’t just stick 800 anywhere…and how could we let them all know (not everyone comes to church every week.

So, we begged, pleaded, and finally talked the principal of Cartersville High School into using their auditorium.

I don’t know if it was the drama that preceded the service or if the service was just that moving, but it was one of my all-time favorite services.  The part that was the most moving was when people texted in their prayer requests and they “magically” appeared on the screens, so that people could pray for them.

Awesome moment…great memory!!
